Nathan Cecil
Nathan Cecil is a trade and transport/commercial litigation solicitor focusing on the shipping and international trade sectors. Nathan specialises in commercial shipping and admiralty law, including charter party disputes, bill of lading issues, pollution prosecutions, cargo claims, ship sale and purchase, salvage, towage and pilotage, contracts of affreightment, Trade Practices Act claims and international arbitration.
Nathan Cecil joined Norton white in July 2004, was appointed a Senior Associate in July 2008 and was made a Partner in 2011.
Nathan’s qualifications include a bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce.
Nathan specialises in Trade & Transport Law, and in particular, Maritime Law. Nathan practices in the areas of admiralty law, commercial litigation, dispute resolution and international arbitration as well as advising in relation to complex commercial contract negotiation, ship sale and purchase and drafting standard terms and conditions and advising on incorporation of terms.
Nathan’s clients include P&I and Defence Clubs, local and foreign ship owners and charterers, local agencies of international shipping lines, large wholesale freight forwarders, commodities traders, salvage/towage operators and road transport operators.
Nathan’s recent experience includes:
- Acting for the salvage contractors engaged to remove the wreck of the “West Atlas” drilling rig; and
- Acting for charterers in respect of claims for despatch against certain Beluga Shipping entities.
